Participation rules:

We want to encourage collaboration between fans this year! Just keep in mind the following rules:

  1. 1 Submission per songwriter (lead songwriter)
  2. 1 Submission per performer (lead vocalist)
  3. Please note the following:
    1. You can play instruments in other submissions
    2. You can do background vocals in other submissions
    3. You can help create visuals for other submissions
    4. You can even help write lyrics for other submissions
    5. BUT, you can only submit under your name once and will only be eligible to win for that submission!

With this in mind, you might consider submitting collab projects as part of our new “Showcase Only” option (see below).

New Option for 2024 (Showcase Only):

Do you want to celebrate your love of the Wheel of Time through a song parody and be a part of WoT Idol, but don’t want to deal with the stress of being pitted against fellow fans in a competition? This year we are offering a new option just for you! You can choose to “opt out” of the competition and submit your entry as a “WoT Idol Showcase Only” video. These entries will not qualify to win any prizes and might not be shown during the WoT Idol competition live streams, but we will still show your entries during a live stream and will make them available on WoTIdol.com. More information coming soon!

Submission rules:

  1. Can’t be shared with the public prior to it being aired on The Dusty Wheel. If it is, it will be disqualified. (you can share it with close friends or family, but not with people online)
  2. Lyrics must be original (don’t use samples of copyrighted original lyrics or original artist vocals)
  3. Please avoid including excessive swearing. mature content and/or harmful material (if you have questions about your submissions, please reach out!)
    1. Please be cautious about discussing modern events, politics, and/or real-world topics in your parodies. Remember: WoTIdol is meant to be inclusive for all Wheel of Time fans, despite their backgrounds, beliefs, or affiliations.
  4. No original music, but you can use your own instruments or an existing Karaoke Track
  5. Must be a minimum of 30 seconds long
  6. No max length
    1. We hope to show more, but we might not show more than 1:00 unless your submission makes it to the final 4.
  7. Must be submitted as an unlisted YouTube link with on-screen text (this requires a free YouTube account)
    1. If YouTube blocks your video it can’t be shown during the stream; however, copyright claims are still accepted.
    2. IMPORTANT: Do not add your unlisted video to a public YouTube Playlist or it can be viewed/seen before the competition!
  8. You must include on-screen text/lyrics “baked” into your video (can’t just be closed captions) but additional visual presentation is not required.
  9. Lyrics must be included in the YouTube video description.
  10. Be sure to submit through WoTidol.com by the deadline (June 15th, 2024).

To keep things within the spirit of WoT Idol and celebration of the Wheel of Time and the fandom we reserve the right to reject submissions.

Please reach out with any questions including technical help.
